“We are talking to everyone at the moment, and we are open to working with everyone,” Hjelm said, adding, “We are already developing the next-generation fighter with our Gripen E, and so we would need ‘E’ technology included in any partnership in which we are involved.”
Hjelm’s clarification of Saab’s position came days after it was reported by the Financial Times that the company was looking to team with the United Kingdom, which is currently looking at its future fighter options via a Team Tempest working group that comprises the Ministry of Defence (MoD), BAE Systems, Leonardo, Rolls-Royce, and MBDA. However, this report followed comments made at the ILA Berlin Airshow in April by Saab CEO Håkan Buskhe, who said that he is considering the company’s options in relation to the Franco–German Future Combat Air System (FCAS) programme.
