They were General Chouard's Carabiniers and the Lancers of the 4th Regiment. Created in 1811, the 9 regiments of Chevau-Légers comprised 6 regiments coming from the Dragoons (regiments 1, 3, 8, 10 and 29). Regiments 7 and 8 were the Poles from the Vistula and the 9th was the 30th Chasseurs (from Hamburg). Only the 6 first regiments received the new uniform including the helmet with the chenille. The distinctives of the six regiments in order were: scarlet, aurora, pink, crimson, sky blue and madder. Theoretically, the Lancers had been given a musket with a bayonet. For the 1812 Campaign, the detachments which were ready and which left were mainly made up of Elite Companies, but reinforcements came gradually. For the Elite Company the distinctives were red plumes and epaulettes
